Image Clash

Someone on here kindly pointed out that my use of images in this sentence, clashed as it's a bit weird to personify instruments and then describe them as tools. Would the use of "being" work as a good solution to this problem? I

Original: "There was something magical, I thought, in the way that instruments could be brought to life, and used as tools to create music."

Potential Solution: "There was something magical, I thought, in the way that instruments could be brought to life, being used as tools to create music."
