But you realize that in 1 & 2, YOU were one of the people who was in the accident, and in 4, your own car was not involved, right? In 1 & 2, your car was hit (or hit something else).

They are all natural (to answer your question), but as BarbaraPA pointed out, they don't all have the same meaning.
