Task 2: Government should spend money to encourage the development of sport and art for school students, rather than supporting professional sports and art performances for general public. Do you agree or disagree? Give your own opinion.
Some people believe that government should invest more in educating arts and sports for teenagers and young children. I disagree with this view because I believe that while professional sports and arts performances could bring some available benefits to society, encouraging arts and sports in educating school children would be uncertain.
On the one hand, educating arts and sports in many nations is not effective. In some countries, the university degree is still considered a key to get a permanent job. At the same time, to enter the university, teenagers have to pass an entrance exam including compulsory subjects such as Literature, Math, English. Therefore, children tend to focus on these subjects and ignore arts and sports. Vietnam, for example, is a country in which focuses on academic disciplines. In arts or sports lessons, children tend to show no interest and even quit the arts and sports class. As a result, it would be money-wasting if the government just provide money for developing arts and sports education at schools without adjusting the career-orientated education.
On the other hand, spending money to encourage sportsmen and artists would be an investment which brings both profits and advantages. Firstly, the main source being brought from these people economically is by selling tickets in professional performances. If there are more mainstream performers in those events there would be more audiences to come in order to pay for a seat in there. Thus, the total ticket sales would be increased. Secondly, sponsored experienced artists and sportspeople working abroad would promote the image and enhance the reputation of their country through their performances and inspirational works. By this way, while paying money for the development of those people, the government also receives the relevant benefits in return.
In conclusion, from my perspective, improving the arts and sports education is not really effective in some countries whereas to encourage people who are dedicating to their home country, the government should continue to invest more in skillful artists and sportspeople.
