"I'm proud to take a stand"

Dear All:
What follows is a paragraph of Boyzone's song "Love Me For A Reason."

Kisses and caresses
Are only minor tests, babe
Of love turned to stresses
Between a woman and a man
So if love everlasting
Isn't what you're asking
I'll have to pass, girl
I'm proud to take a stand

1. About "I'm proud to take a stand"
I found that "take a stand" is a verb phrase meaning "oppose someone."
I don't think the meaning fits well in the lyrics, but I am not sure.

2. What do "pass" mean here?

Best Regards

Take a stand = be firm and resolute in your opinion, letting nothing change your mind. Pass = not be involved. In a card game where bidding is involved, if it is your turn and you don't want to make a bid, you pass.
