Essay & Composition Writing

I'm practicing for IELTS Task 2. I'll be grateful if you can give me some comments!

TOPIC: It is a common aspiration among many young people to run their own business rather than work for an employer.

Do you think the advantages of working for yourself outweigh the drawbacks?

Nowadays, many postgraduate students aspired to work for themselves instead of working for a company or an organization. While owning a business might seem like an interesting idea, I prefer to think that the disadvantages outweigh the benefits in this situation.

One major drawback of running your own business is that it is generally no easy task to start a company. In many cases, attracting the attention of the investors requires a meticulous plan as well as a unique idea. Furthermore, in such a saturated market, you have numerous competitors. They could be an established organization or a start-up company similar to yours.

Another main problem of setting up a company is that for many, keeping an organization function involves lots of hard work. What I mean by this is that you not only need to manage the cash flows and income or the company but also have to deal with the internal conflicts among your employees. Consequently, the pressure could be too overwhelming. You would be unable to switch off at weekends.

On the other hand, being your own boss, in many cases, can provide you with many benefits. You could be full control of your schedule and be able to do your job the way you want. In addition, you are allowed to take the credits and keep the profits without worrying that your employers might conveniently forget your contribution to the success of the project.

All things considered, working for yourself has never been an easy task. Personally, I think that the negatives outweigh the positives. In my point of view, setting up a business is only suitable for people who are independent-minded and fully prepared.
