Vocabulary

I'm looking for a verb.

'Things do not always VERB as you expect.'

For example, when a stock price fell just after I bought it expecting it to rise, I feel that way.
I'm looking for a verb which works best in the above sentence.
Thank you in advance.

Hi, Yankee!
Thank you for your quick reply and your ideas.

How about 'go' or 'work'?
After my last post I came up with these verbs. Don't they work in the example?

"Go" is just fine, but I prefer "work out" to plain "work."

Hello, Grammar Geek!
Thank you for your response.
So, you think 'Things do not always go as you expect.' and 'Things do not always work out as you expect.' are the best choices. Correct?

Not the "best," no. Any of the suggestions given work equally well. I simply prefer "work out" to "work."
