I'm looking for a book for broadening my vocabulary

Hi everybody,

I would like to read an English book. I've never done that before. It would be good if the author would use mainly standard English. I would like to pass a CAE exam (and a CPE sometime in the distant future) therefore UK English would be better. I mainly like sci-fi and fantasy books (or something exciting, adventure, etc.). I don't want to read documentary material.

Maybe I request too much and maybe I put it in the inappropriate forum section but I don't know where it should be.

Thanks for your suggestions in advance.

You might like the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Author Conan Doyle. It is a series of short stories, British English, and available for free in both audio (several versions) and written forms. So you can listen to it as well as read it.
