Vocabulary

I'm looking for a better expression.

'If the government imposes a heavy tax on chocolates, chocolate companies would suffer financial difficulties because the sales of chocolates might drop dramatically.'

In this example, I'd like to replace 'suffer financial difficulties' with a more punchy expression.

'Lose their financial vitality'?

'Go into bankruptcy'? But this is too strong, because it will not necesarily happen.

Is there any better expression?

First, you need to change either imposes to imposed or would to will ; also change might drop to will drop (in the latter case) or dropped (in the former) : If the government imposes... companies will suffer... because sales will drop If the goverment imposed...

  • because sales dropped Lose their financial vitality is about as un-punchy as suffer financial difficulties .
