I'm having problems with pronouns.. please help me.

Which of the following sentences is grammatcally correct?

Sarcasm is the ability to insult idiots without them realizing it.

or

Sarcasm is the ability to insult idiot without their realizing it.

Which pronoun should be used to make the sentence grammatically formal?

CliveI would call 'their' a possessive adjective, not a pronoun. Clive
Please, Clive, it's not an adjective - it's a genitive PRONOUN functioning as the subject of the VERB "realizing".
