I'm good/I'm well.

Hi. When i asked my American friend 'How are you? I hope you are well' She answered: 'I'm good'. Shouldn't it be 'I'm well.' ? Or maybe Americans says 'I'm good'. Is it ok to answer 'I'm good' when someone asks 'how are you?'

When you think about it, “How are you?” is a rather general question. (How am I what?)

“Fine. How are you?” is a typical response.

“How are things?” is just as general. (What things?)

“How do you do?” (Do what?)

How a person responds is dependent on both his mood and his health, so "I'm well!" or "I'm good!" are equally acceptable.
