What is the difference between these 2.

1. I'm finished.

2. I finished.

100 years ago, when I was in elementary school, a student announced to the teacher, "I'm done." She responded, "Johnny, the turkey gets done; you have finished."

Have is probably the better auxiliary verb, but forms of beare very common in AmEng.
