I'm comfused about these words...

I'm confused about the words:check exam test
Will it be okay if they are used here?Here is the sentence:
I remember it when I was in the hospital for a(n) ____ before surgery.

That is likely, yes. Check-ups are also common before major surgery.

A medical test (eg a blood test) is a specific procedure to determine an indication of health or disease.

A blood test will show indicators like: low count of white cells (HIV), high blood sugar (diabetes), high cholesterol (precursor to heart attacks and stroke), lack of clotting agents (hemophilia), certain hormones (pregnancy) and so on.

An exam is much more general, and usual

Don't confuse school terms with medical terms. The meanings are different. This is for the American school system:

Exams are very important tests. A course could have a mid-term exam and a final exam. They cover all the previous material that was taught. These count a lot for your grade.
