I'm "aloud" to do ...

From one of my friends, I received a note saying "I'm aloud to go to Place A or Place B."
I didn't understand what "aloud" meant in this context, so I checked the web.
Q1)* This "aloud" was intended as "*allowed". Am I right?
Q2)* Was it just a mistake or did she *intentionally* write it down *for short? I mean, I often see "U" as "you" on the net. I don't know what it is called - abbreviation? Anyway, Is this "aloud " that kind of stuff?
*Thank you!*
