I beg to differ. I dare say a Brit could understand all of what someone from Mountain West Virginia, the Deep South of Mississippi, parts of Louisiana, or parts of my native Texas was saying. And that’s just the South. True, it is not nearly as difficult or diverse as it was fifty years ago when we were not all immersed in media 24/7 but it’s still there. We have regions where consonants seem to be optional and words sound like one long vowel movement.
