What does 'I'll give you some space' mean?

I guess it might mean 'I'll stop bothering you; I'll leave you alone'.

You can use the expression literally, in referring to physical closeness; or you can use it figuratively, as "I won't engage you in any way."

"To engage" is similar to "to involve."

Except that when I say "I will engage you [in conversation], I mean "with me."

If I say, "I will involve you in the plot," I must specify. That is, it's not necessarily with me."

I think of an automobile transmission in neutral. When I "engage the drive," I connect the motor to the wheels.
