Hi
Please review this essay for me.
Some people say that e-Books and modern technology will totally replace traditional newspaper and magazines. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
In the last ten years or so there have been significant changes in the way people read books, magazines, and newspapers. Electronic book (eBook) and e-newspapers have become very common among readers. This has led to the argument if tablet computer and smart phones will completely take the place of traditional newspapers and magazines. I agree with this argument to a limited extent.
Today more and more readers prefer e-books and e-newspapers to hard copies primarily because of convenience. One does not have to bother about carrying the book in one’s hands. Be it The New York Times running for twenty-five pages or a Jeffrey Archer’s short story collection of around 700 pages, one can conveniently save it in a device which is as small as or even smaller that one’s palm. Illumination from an external source is no longer a need for those who use electronic gadgets for reading—they have in-built light. This feature is highly helpful to those who want to read in trains or buses at night.
Some readers contend that nothing can match the pleasures of reading from a hard copy and the safety and simplicity it entails. They argue that reading a book feeling the pages is a pleasant experience. Additionally, these readers are apprehensive about the harmful effects of the radiation from the screen while their eyes are constantly looking at it. Malfunctioning of electronic books and other such gadgets used for reading is another reason that these readers conveniently hold on to hard copies.
In conclusion, though eBooks and e-newspapers are found to be convenient and comfortable, it is unlikely that they will totally take the place of traditional books and newspapers, for there will always be some who will continue to appreciate the inherent benefits of reading from a hard copy.
Thank you
Suresh
