If.....wouldn't be doing the same thing/ would do....

Turk: Look, JD, we're gonna find time to hang, man. It's just that we're both really swamped right now, and I'm hanging out with Carla a lot, I know... But tell me, if there was someone you were into, you wouldn't be doing the same thing.

Background: JD and Turk were friends. But JD felt that their relationship had been fading since Turk had been hanging out with his girlfriend, Carla. And now Turk ensured JD that he had JD's back.

Why is "wouldn't be doing" (Continuous Tense) used here? It's similar to "The train is leaving 7:30pm" (destiny/planned/arranged)? Would you please explain the difference if I use "wouldn't do the same thing"? Thanks for your feedback
