If you happen

Hello,

I'm studying the structure "If you happen" in conditional sentences and I'd like to ask about negation.

What is the correct structure?
If you happen to be not satisfied ....
If you happen not to be satisfied ...
If you don't happen to be satisfied ...

Thank you

Top answer

The most correct structure is the last one: "if you don't happen to be satisfied". I would not use the first two. Alternatively, you can also say: "If you happen to be dissatisfied…".

What is the correct structure?
If you happen to be not satisfied .... No.
If you happen not to be satisfied ... OK.
If you don't happen to be satisfied ... OK.

The negative form is much, much less used than the affirmative.

Thank you. However, if you'd have to negate the original sentence, where would you put "not"?
