If you don't know the word to / of the song

Hi teachers,

It's my mommy's birthday. I'm going to say happy birthday to my mommy. If you don't know the word to / of the song, just hum along.

I couldn't make it out whether it is "of" or "to" the song.

Thank you.

Hi Mister Micawber,

Thank you for your help. I heard it on a children's show. I call my mother, "ma ma" in my dialect.

Do you mean the "three" prepositions can be used interchangeable? Can you think of an exception?

Thank you.

An exception? There are hundreds of structures in which all 3 cannot be used! To, of and for have many, many meanings.

Hi Mister Micawber,

I hear people say: Could I have the number for Mr. XX? And I always think "of" is correct. Does in this case "of" and "to" also a choice?

Thank you.

'For' is by far the more natural, Tinanam. 'Of' is possible; 'to' is not possible.

You are not alone in liking 'of'. My Japanese students try to use 'of' for almost every possibility: it is often possible but not the natural choice; native speakers have other (perhaps more idiomatic) preposition preferences.
