There's also a fantastic play on words in the UK comedy TV Series 'Spaced' where one of the characters goes to an employment agency to get temporary work (if you do this a lot, you are known as a 'Temper') the agency she goes to is called 'Hot Tempers'

I suppose it's for the same reason that you are not known as a poet unless you write a lot of poems, you are not known as a singer if you've only sung once, and you are not known as a translator unless you have done a lot of translations. It's the difference between trying something once or twice or doing it so many times that it becomes your job.
