If you did but know it?

What does the phrase "if you did but know it" mean?

I've got it in the following sentence: "If you did but know it, you're breaking he rules".

Does it mean: "If you only knew it, that you are breaking the rules"?

Thank you in advance.

Hey there.

I believe it must be sth else.

first of all I think u have two typos.

"If you did but knew it, you're breaking the rules".

if this was the sentence u meant then the meaning is most probably this: "if u did that and u knew it was against the rules then u are breaking the rules"

No, these can't be typos. This sentence is taken from "Grammar and Vocabulary for Cambridge Advanced and Proficiency" (by R.Side and G. Wellman; p. 58)
