On the way home from my recent buying trip to Paris, I stopped in Seldon’s Department Store, London’s most exciting store. Shoppers’ comments could be summed up in one word: “wow.”
The store contains Europe’s largest beauty hall, a half acre of cosmetics. Fourteen restaurants often share themes with adjacent selling space; for example, Robert’s Revenge, a Moroccan bistro, is next to the section selling some of Morocco’s most beautiful rugs.
Nothing is commonplace. There is a bicycle department, a tattooing section, and a children’s department with its giant white plastic blobs holding clothing racks.
Until its renovation three years ago, this store had a dowdy dowager’s look. Let’s talk about this with regard to our own store’s dowager status and upcoming renovations.
