Are these lines natural English? Any suggestions are welcome.
[an excerpt from a semi-formal letter]
If you cannot place me at the moment, please allow me to take you to the year 1978 when I was working in Australia as a dentist and wanted to come back because of family commitments; I requested you (on your private number) to facilitate the matters for me [I wanted to join your hospital on my return], which you very graciously did. But before the things could be finalized I ran out of time and had to return to Australia.
