If & would

Hi teachers. I am a little bit confuse with "would" in sentence which begins with "If".

ex: "If I jump now, would you catch me?"

why dont we choose will instead of would?

It would be better to use will in that sentence.

If I jump now, will you catch me?
If I jumped now, would you catch me?

In #1, you are probably thinking about jumping, while #2 is more of a hypothetical question.

what about this sentence.

"If I am/was a rich man, I will/would buy everything I want"
and the fact is im not a rich man.

If I were a rich man, I would buy everything I want.

Some would use was instead of were.
