If + was/were ; care of/about

1.)

Which of those 2 sentences is correct:?

* I wish it were possible to travel through time.
* I wish it was possible to travel through time.

I was thought If-sentences with past tense always need 'were', but an American said 'was' ...

2.)

It's about a clinic for drug addicts:

* They are co-operating with big companies and they will care of your education.
* They are co-operating with big companies and they will care about your education.

[they will ensure that he gets education]

Thanks

I think these days you could use either version of the first sentence and be correct. English purists, at least in the old days, would much prefer the first, "I wish it WERE possible to travel through time" since this indicates the subjunctive mood. It still sounds best to my ears.

  • I would think that the Brits would still use this styling probably more than Americans.
  • I don't much care for (no pun intended) either of the sentences in your second set.
