If they hadn't got a German manager

Which of the following sentences is correct?

1) Liverpool players wouldn't be so good if they hadn't a German manager.

2) Liverpool players wouldn't be so good if they hadn't got a German manager.

If both are possible, do they mean the same thing?

If so, what does "got" in sentence #2 mean/stand for?

Thank you.

teal lime Liverpool players wouldn't be so good if they hadn't (got) a German manager. Possible, but I'd end with if they didn't have a German manager . That's probably the most used form.
