I have problem with the first part of this sentence:

If equality is anything, it is a logic.

I can't understand the meaning of the phrase "if (sth) is anything"

This means that 'sth certainly/fundamentally is...'

If equality is anything, it is a logic = Equality is basically/certainly/fundamentally a logic.
