If Only to Know ....

Hi. How are you?

I saw the whole thing. It wasn't your fault. Even what happened to Tim wasn't your fault, but it was nice to hear you apologize anyway. If only to know you could do it in the future.
What does "if only to know" mean? Could someone please paraphrase the sentence for me?

Could you also rephrase it to "it was nice to hear you apologize anyway, perhaps, only to know you could do it in the future"?
