Grammar

If not versus unless

These structures are quite similar.
I summarize the differences in this way:
FIrst
You cann't go to my party if you are not my friend.
It may indicate even if you are my friend , you may not come to my party.(there are other requirements)
You cann't go to my party unless you are my friend
It means as long as you are my friend , you can come to my party.(absolute requirment)
Second
Unless can not used in subjuctive mood.
Unless I had caught the bus, I wouldn't have attended the party.( i missed the bus, because I missed the bus)
If I hadn't caught the bus , I would haven't attended the party. (I caught the bus , subjunctive mood)
Third ,unless = except
It snows quite a lot in this area ,unless in the hills.(except in the hills 0
"If not "can not be used in this way!
Am I right ? Thank you !

(absolute requirment) I think this distinction is debatable, and, if it exists in certain cases, is no more than a tendency that can be overridden by context and other implications or information provided. Spelling: can't yzh1978 Unless I had caught the bus, I wouldn't have attended the party. This is not good English..
