If not that

I was so sure that he would one day be famous (if not that he would soon be offered a job).

I just came across this sentence in a book.

But in "if not that he would soom be offered a job", does "not" negate the whole clause "he would soon be offered a job"? And is the sentence grammatically correct?

Top answer

fire1 And is the sentence grammatically correct? Yes. Bear in mind that matter inside parentheses has no connection with the grammar of the rest of the sentence.
