"If life is a road, and then she is my ride."

I saw this sentence in a song, "If life is a road, and then she is my ride.", but I think "If life were a road, and then she would be my ride." is grammatically more correct or the first sentence is okay to use in daily conversations?
Thank you so much as usual and have a good day.

PS. How about "If life was /were a road, and then she were my ride."?

Hi, Anonymous song Say no more. Don't seek grammatical correctness in songs: they often contain unusual language that doesn't make a lot of sense, if at all. I hate to say it, but there's no place for nitpicking in this case, in my opinion.

Hi,

I think you meant to write: If life is a road, and then she is my ride. As you can see, and

should be discarded. Still, I can't really determine whether your version would be more appropriate.

Once again, we are talking about a song, not about an academic essay, so strict grammar rules

don't really apply here. Besides, I'm n

You mean "If life is a road, and then she is my ride." That is perfectly correct, and your revisions are not. The idea is that everybody says that life is a journey, a road, and if that is true, then she is your means of traveling it.

You are right to sense a problem, but the subjunctive is fading away, and it has undergone severe erosion even where its use is sti
