If I were/was

Hello,
I read this on the newspaper, should it not be "If I were" ?

It's too late for vanity. If I was 30, maybe, I'd say, 'Hey, that's not a good angle.'

it's ok to use If I was in spoken language..everybody does. However, If I were is the correct form.
