If I were you, I would do it

If I were you, I would do it

If I had been you, I would have done it.

I think the tense of 'were' and 'had' affects the tense or shape of 'would' in dependent clauses. What do you teachers think?

I think you are starting to wander too far from useful grammar. Be satisfied with learning the co-occurrence of verb forms in conditional sentences:

If I am..., I will....
If I were..., I would....
If I had been..., I would have....

Could we say the usage of would is the same between them? I think the first is for conditionals but the second is for fact guessing. Do you also distinguish between them like this? Thank you.

They ring differently to my ears.

A : Someone is at the door.
B1: That will be Tom.
B2: That would be Tom.

B2 shows slightly less assurance.
