1. If it were not for my family, I would give up my position.

2. If there was not for my family, I would give up my position.

No, sentence 2 is wrong.
"If it were NOT FOR ..." (sentence 1) is idiomatic.
You can say "If there WAS NOT ..." but you can't say "If there was NOT FOR ...".
