If I were born

"If I were born in France I would know French history too."
Is the above sentence grammatically correct ?
In my opinion, the sentence should be "If I had been born in France, I would know French history too.

To my ear, "born in France" is an adjective complement, similar to "If I were late."

I'm born in the USA.

Of course the past perfect passive is fine.

Avangi, I think it's perfectly grammatical but it's just never used and that's why it's unidiomatic and even incorrect!
