",,,if I ever came over to their side of politics, it would be because my personal circumstances changed. "

Hi all

I need some help with the sentence construction of an "if I ever" phrase. Do I follow the rules of the conditional tenses?

From https://www.ef-australia.com.au/english-resources/english-grammar/type-2-conditional/: "The type 2 conditional refers to an unlikely or hypothetical condition and its probable result. These sentences are not based on the actual situation. In type 2 conditional sentences, the time is now or any time and the situation is hypothetical."

I am recounting a speculation that I formed in the past. It is also a speculation that I have since fulfilled.

"I came to the realisation that if I ever came over to their side of politics, it would be because my personal circumstances changed. "

Thank you.

Normally we would expect this: I came to the realisation that if I ever came over to their side of politics, it would be because my personal circumstances had changed. Stylistically, the repetition of "came" is slightly noticeable.
