Which one is correct?

If I could turn the clock back, I went to the past, I went to Persia in 500 BC when Cyrus the great ruled in Iran.
If I could turn the clock back, I would go to the past, I would go to Persia in 500 BC when Cyrus the great ruled in Iran.

It still seems like a run-on sentence to me. I would substitute the comma in bold for a semicolon:
