Why should I say
I got a coin not I have got a coin

If I have said something
Why should I say
I said ...! not I have said ...!

Why should a sport commentator
say he got 3 points not he has got bla bla bla

Let's consider two very simple and practical examples.

Mary cooked dinner. This just tells us about something that happened in the past. Maybe it happened 5 minutes go. Maybe it happened 50 years ago. We don't know, although often the speaker will go on to tell us.
