...........if for no other reason than to....

Hello

Reading a book named "Listening for Lions" by Gloria Whelan, I came to a phrase which I did not understand:

Each day I was a little farther from the Africa I loved. Occasionally the
ship would dock to take on or put off cargo. We stopped in Alexandria,
Egypt. I had read about Egypt’s pyramids and Cleopatra and the great ancient
library in Alexandria that was burned along with all its irreplaceable books. I
longed to see Egypt, if for no other reason than to place my feet on its soil,
but Miss Limplinger said the country was unhealthy and full of thieves and
we kept to our stateroom.

The structure "If .... than to ......" is totally new to me and I did not find it anywhere.

Does the sentence mean that

"The pyramids and Cleopatra and the library were among the many reasons I liked to set foot on Egypt..."

?

Thanks in advance
