If condition

Sir,

If I were a doctor.

What does it mean. Is the condition for present time or past time. I am bit confused.

Please clear it.

Thanks.

I am assuming you are aware that the clause "if I were a doctor" is not a complete sentence. The condition is in the present as far as meaning is concerned. It means "I am not a doctor, but if we imagine that I am a doctor".
