If.........?

Should a past tense always be used when starting a sentence with "If"?
Like, If I were a Lion, if she could........, if she had done......

Also, is this sentence grammatically correct? : "If those three encountered each other....." (And it's not the scenario where you use "If those three had encountered each other". Because those three has never met each other before. This is just a what if situation).

If he has come on foot, he will be wet through.

I'd be surprised if he came next week
If he were coming

So, we only use Past Tense when something is imaginary/impossible in our opinion?

Also, is the sentence "If those three meet each other, what will happen?" correct?
