TOPIC 4: Many criminals reoffend after they have been punished. Why do some people continue to commit crimes after they have been punished, and what measures can be taken to tackle this problem? (causes and solutions)
After being penalized, many criminals are released to come back to the normal lives but they still keep committing crimes. There are some reasons lead to this issue and I believe that some appropriate solutions can solve this problem.
Despite the positive aspect of being set free that they have an opportunity to contribute to the community in a legal way, there are some causes make them break the law again. First, they are less likely to be accepted by the community. For example, when they apply for a job, they are probably refused because their criminal history would be mentioned in their profile. Because of being unemployed, they may not have a better choice rather than come back to the old road. Second, they may be lack of awareness of labor value. They are able to work as a normal person with a legal job but they do not want to do that as it probably does not bring about much money and they have to work hardly. Therefore, they can easily be back to the previous illegal way where they can live abundant lives without putting so many efforts.
However, there are some solutions that government can consider dealing with this problem. First, creating job opportunity can reduce the unemployment rate of released criminals. This can make they feel more being accepted and easier to integrate themselves into the society. Second, government can raise awareness of labor by manage some activities related to work. For example, they can learn to fix cars, electricity appliances or do some handcrafted products, which can help them to comprehend working value.
To sum up, recommitting crimes of ex-criminals is still a prevailing problem but government and society may have ability to solve it with some practical measures.
