Cycling is more environmentally friendly than other forms of transport. Why is it not popular in many places? And how to increase its popularity?

Although cycling is clearly a better way to protect the environment, not many people opt to use this mode of transport. Reasons for this vary, and solutions should be taken to promote the usage of bicycles.

There are several reasons that explain why bicycles is not the priority of many people. First, people are now becoming much busier with their work and study than in the past. Individuals want to spend as little time on transport as possible to have more time for other academic work. Hectic pace of life may encourage people to use faster types of transport to commute to work. Second, cycling is more physically demanding than other means of transport. As a result, people decide to use other private vehicles such as cars and motorbikes rather than relying on bicycles. Additionally, a means of transport such as cars can shelter users from bad weather and help them travel a long distance.

Several actions should be taken to increase the popularity of bicycles. The first solution would be to make it more costly to own a car or a motorbike. This can be done by increasing the price of petrol or tax on these vehicles. Thus, people would prefer to choose bicycles as a primary means of transport. Another remedy is to construct more lanes only for cyclists to travel easily, which stimulates individuals to use bicycles.
