International tourism is now the biggest industry in the world. Unfortunately, it brings tension rather than understanding between the people from different cultures. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
It is true that the global tourism industry helps boost economic growth in many countries around the world. Although visitors could benefit enormously from traveling abroad, this cannot be the private concern over different pressures on many aspects of people life.
There are many reasons why international tourism can be a catalyst for considerable tension in the economy, society, and environment. Firstly, in order to meet the demands of an increase in tourist facilities of popular destinations, governments have to invest, heavily and frequently, in funds and lands for tourism. It means that they are likely to cope with a severe lack of space for agriculture, especially defensive forests, thereby a rise in the high cost of these lands. Secondly, a sheer number of seasonal employees, having little prospect for promotion, are less likely to advance their living standard. Moreover, tourism is a cause of mass environmental damage, which leads to far more pollution, forest fires, and the disappearance of natural habitats.
However, a range of the positive effects further outweighs these demerits of the tourist industry. What makes global traveling favored by the public is due to cultural exchange, which means that tourists have the opportunities to experience, fully and directly, cultural and traditional diversity. Thus, this makes a significant contribution to promote international links, strengthening worldwide solidarity, peace and great friendships among nations and peoples. Furthermore, tourism plays a crucial role in conveying, accurately and effectively, the core value of traditional cultures. In fact, visitors, gaining a deeper insight into other cultures, could enhance the awareness of respecting and conserving the unique culture of ethnic identities.
In conclusion, international tourism, smokeless industry, must be regardless of potential dangers involving in many countries’ economic status. Governments and tourist corporations worldwide should take steps to ensure that valuable cultures have remained stable as they used to be.
