IELTS WT2 - ENVIRONMENT

Nowadays we are producing more and more rubbish. Why do you think this is happening? What can governments do to help reduce the amount of rubbish produced?

Essay:

In recent decades, humans are totally responsible for producing a large amount of rubbish, but there are steps can be taken to reduce the devastating impacts caused to this planet. This essay will discuss problems of rubbish and measures that governments can take to address these issues.

There are a number of reasons why the amount of trash increases significantly. As the population rises quickly, humans are producing ever greater quantities of waste from households and manufacturing. This strongly contaminates the Earth and pollutes rivers and oceans. In addition, in order to maintain high profits, corporations tend to consume and manufacture non-biodegradable materials and products that take decades to disappear. Therefore, rubbish could occupy various areas worldwide, which directly affects the local ecosystem and apparently human’s health living there.

Governments certainly could pay more effort to reduce the amount of garbage. They could introduce a stricter law to limit trash from factories and to force companies to clean their waste in a way benefiting the environment. As a result, corporations must choose between dismissing their production or finding a greater way of destruction of waste. The governments could also impose ‘green taxes’ on shoppers buying non-biodegradable products. This way would encourage citizens to choose products with less packaging or biodegradable products, and to recycle as much as possible, therefore reducing the rubbish released in the environment.

In conclusion, the governments must play their important part in controlling the quantities of rubbish to remain at bay and in looking after the environment.
