IELTS Writting Task 2 - Global integration

Some people say that the increasing business and cultural contact between countries is a positive development, while others think that many countries will lose their national identities as a result.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

In the past few decades, there is a close connection between countries regarding culture and business. While some people consider that it would exacerbate their national identities, I believe that countries would significantly develop if we foster this trend.

One the one hand, this tendency could bring negative impacts on national identity. Firstly, it is easy to recognize that youngsters tend to be exposed to foreign products more than traditional ones; this could lead to local values to be no longer appreciated and gradually faded. For example, a wide range of European clothing stores are overwhelming fashion market in Vietnam, resulting in a reduction of using Vietnamese Ao Dai. Secondly, international languages play an indispensable role in borderless commerce, because this could greatly facilitate the business between areas. Therefore, several minority communities substituted their dialect by using common languages, causing traditional languages to be on the brink of disappearance.

On the other hand, I believe that international interaction would have positive effects on the country’s development in many aspects. Global integration makes it possible for the country to gain many profits from tourism, because of a remarkable increase in the number of visitors. For instance, In Vietnam, cultural centers such as Hoi An ancient town make substantial contribution to national budget from selling tickets and organizing travel services. Furthermore, when a country opens its economy market, it could be effortless to export commodities to other countries. In the meantime, purchasing power is also fostered because people have the chance to choose either domestic products or imported ones.

In conclusion, although national identities could be mitigated if countries make an international interaction, in my opinion, it would remarkably promote the country’s progression.

Thank you Sir.
