IELTS Writing Task2: Transport

Question:

Governments should spend money on railways rather than roads.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

My answer:

Transportation is a vital public issue. Some people argue that governments should allocate more funds to the railway service rather than the roads. This argument may be true.

Investment in the railways is worth its value. In my country, every New Year's Festival can see millions of people returning from big cities to their hometowns, and this is mainly achieved by trains. The railway is a kind of public transportation which is super efficient and is available to the majority of residents and benefits every citizen, as travelling by trains can be relatively cheap. Also, the speed of a train is very high. This means it save passengers' time and improve the efficiency of transportation. Railway network is also one of the most vital foundations of industry and commercial. It transports massive amount of goods through the country, boosting the economic development of a nation.

On the other hand, perfecting the road network is also in demand. Travelling by cars for short-distance trips is more convenient, as roads link our houses, schools, hospitals and any other facilities. In the meantime, moving by private vehicles usually means more comfortable, with more private space and cleaner air. Also, roads play an important role in the transportation of goods, as it can transport them to small towns where the railway network has not covered.

In conclusion, while I agree that governments should enhance the road service, I believe that they should spend more money on the railway facilities which benefit both individuals and the whole nation.

Thanks for ur help.
