IELTS Writing Task II - IELTS Academic

TOPIC: The leaders of most organizations tend to be older people. However, some argue that younger people make better bosses. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

That age influence on leadership has existed in society for many decades. Although it is clear that the leaders of most organizations tend to be the senior ones, others believe that boss positions are more suitable for younger counterparts, I partly agree with this statement for several reasons.

There is no doubt that the majority of older leaders have contributed to successful outcomes. First and foremost, senior bosses accumulate both work and life experience in the office for certain years, so that they might make the right decision when there are problems emerging. Hence, a leader at old aged might gain more trust from other members. Apart from it, working management might always be under control based on the perception of respecting the elderly, which also plays an important role in leading an organization by the elderly themselves. Thus, the organization might be successful with fewer difficulties under senior leadership.

Nevertheless, the younger generation is considered to be prospective leaders nowadays. It is noticed that young bosses mostly catch new trends in the community the fastest since they are adaptive and willing to try several approaches for the best of their organizations. As a result, young leaders would fulfill the requirements of the market forces by their creativity. Furthermore, young people would sacrifice themselves for work due to their high ambition as well as having huge sources of energy, which might be contagious to other members and lead to solidarity between leaders and workers. Therefore, employees' working spirits would be strengthened by the energy of a young leader.

In conclusion, although senior bosses have devoted their experiences to successfully leading a team, younger counterparts also contribute their ambition and creativity to become effective bosses.
