Topic: An increasing number of children are overweight which could result many problems when they grow older both in terms of their health and health care costs

Why do you think so many children are overweight?

What could be done to solve this problem?

Many young people nowadays are obese that has severe impacts on their physical and mental health later which requires much medical care expenses. There are some reasons for this tendency and it can be tackled by some effective measures.

To begin with, there are several reasons why there is a rising number of children weigh too much. The first cause comes from the unhealthy eating patterns. For instance, the frequently consumption of fast food make the calories and cholesterol increase rapidly which moves children closer to the risk of being obese. The second reason is the lack of physical activities. With the development of technology, young people tend to stick their eyes to the screens of modern gadgets instead of enjoying the fresh atmosphere outside. As a result of this, the amount of time for sports and other outdoor activities reduces quickly and young people become more inactive and unhealthy. Another important but less well-known cause is related to the stress. According to the reports from Oxford University in 2017, children from dysfunctional families with anxiety may experience weight gain due to their conditions and over time, the weight gain may eventually lead to obesity.

There are several actions that parents could take to solve the below problem. Firstly, a simple solution would be to have a balanced diet. Particularly, children should be encouraged to eat more vegetables and fruit and cut down the amount of fast food or sugary products. A second measure would be the frequency of doing exercises and sports which play role in a healthy weight. Finally, parents need to create a cheerful atmosphere that makes their children feel safe.

In conclusion, various measures can be taken to solve the problems that are certain to arise as the number of overweight children is increasing.
