IELTS WRITING TASK 2_EDUCATION

Please help me evaluate this one. Thanks so much for your help!

Some people believe that studying at university or college is the best route to a sucessful career, while others believe that it is better to get a job straight after school. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

In this day and age, going to university is regarded as the best way to guarantee your success in future job, while others suggest looking for a job right after school. As far as I am concerned, each standpoint has its own perks but I stil lean towards the previous one.

On the one hand, working after school can help you accumulate practical experiences which are not easily acquired in your school. Maybe you will have to come up with some tricky circumstances in which you need to get advantage of your problem-solving skills to deal with, or you might work in a team rather on your own, thus you have to moderate the team atmosphere to achieve the highest performance. Moreover, you can distinguish the differences between the real job and what you are taught at school. Sometimes, it is so radically different that you need to find a way to get accustomed to. In addition, finance is also of paramount importance. You can earn money to make ends meet with your occupation.

On the other hand, attending the university or college means that you can specialize in a specific degree such as Sociolgy or International relations. What you studied in high school before can be narrowed down to the core of a field, thus you can rule out much redundant knowledge that you do not need. Furthermore, the curriculum in the university also let you study from basis to advance and let you have opportunities to practice in your internship period, so you do not worry about lacking practical experiences. Although it may take you some years (3-4 years on average) studying, I think it is still worthy due to 3 fundamental factors: getting access to the core of a field, being well-prepared for a job, enhancing your level of expertise. For instance, I myself have spent 4 years at college to pursue Psychology. This major was hardly taught in high school before so it is such a brand-new experience to me. When I study, I can navigate what I should learn and what I should do after graduation.

To sum up, both choices have its own upsides and it mainly depends on each individual’s interests, wishes or demands. However, fulfilling a university degree before starting a job is still my preferred choice.
